Here are a few tips for game board making:

1) Materials

The materials usually include paper, wooden, and plastic. Paper board may not be as durable as wooden and plastic, but it is light-weighted and lower in cost, most commonly used in TTG games. Wooden board has a better texture, more durable, but higher in cost. Plastic board is waterproof and stain-resistant, suitable for outdoor playing and kids’ games.

2) Craftsmanship

Some craftsmanship can be used to make paper game board like wrapping edges, film lamination (matte or glossy), linen finish, etc. These can help resolve the issue of durability.

Wrapping edges can avoid the edges peeling off after longtime and frequent use, especially for those with folded sections.

Film lamination including Matte Lamination and Glossy Lamination, is waterproof and anti-wear and Glossy Lamination goes more to enhance the glossiness and visual effect.

Linen finish increases the texture and tactile sensation. The effect is just like linen fabric.

3) Compatibility

The layout of the game board has to balance with the game mechanics, be compatible with other components and be consistent with the overall style.
